is a land surveying firm with multiple locations, specializing in land development, oil/gas, energy, geospatial mapping, commercial surveys and subsurface utility engineering.
A typical survey crew consists of a Party Chief, an Instrument Person and one or two Rodman Persons.
A Rodman Person is an entry level position.
It is a physically demanding job.
While this not intended to be a complete list of the duties of a Rodman Person, it is a representative indication of the physically demanding work required to perform the essential functions of the job:
Essential Job Functions:
Loading and unloading the survey vehicle of equipment and supplies, including but not limited to bundles of wooden hubs and lathes, concrete monuments, survey equipment including heavy boxed instruments, and large water coolers.
Filling the survey vehicle with gas and checking out the fluid levels, such as water and oil.
Checking the tire pressure and looking for mechanical problems, such as broken headlights and taillights.
Carrying items including, but not limited to, bundles of hubs and lathes, concrete monuments, and equipment through the woods, brush and mud, water and swamps to various points on the job site.
This often requires lengthy periods of walking up to one half mile from the survey vehicle.
The bundles of hubs and lathes are heavy and awkward and the monuments weigh up to 30 pounds each.
Using a machete to cut line, i.

, clearing heavy brush and foliage out of the way so that the Instrument Person has an unobstructed view of the target.
This often entails walking in hostile terrain filled with holes, high grass, unseen hazards, snakes, insects and water.
Pounding hubs into the ground which requires regular kneeling and stooping.
This is one of the most frequently performed activities of the Rodman.
Digging holes to locate the underground utilities to bury the concrete monuments.
Using a shovel or post hole digger can place a lot of pressure on the knees.
Lifting steel manholes lids and curb inlet grates to get inverts of pipes for as-built drawings.
These covers weigh seventy-five pounds or more.
This activity requires kneeling and squatting at every manhole.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Walking, kneeling, lifting, pounding, digging and working outdoors in all types of weather and environments.
Cooperatively working with Party Chief and other crew members.
