Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting the Jasper County Coroner with administrative duties and responsibilities.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Provides administrative and technical support to staff.
Composes correspondence, reports and memos and uses own discretion.
Maintains appointments, schedules, and calendars.
Arranges travel and all reservations.
Assists with administrative functions of death investigations office.
Helps maintains all the Coroners files.
Distributes reports and documents per statute and office policy.
Demonstrates working knowledge of, and compliance with, DCCO policy and procedures and relevant state and federal statutes.
Knowledge of filing and record keeping techniques.
Able to deal with confidential materials and records.
Extensive telephone responsibilities.
Arranges tours of the Coroners office.
May need to receive and release bodies, per policy.
May need to release evidence and personal property, per policy.
May need to assist Coroner Investigators with processing bodies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
Skill in operating a computer and standard office equipment.
Skill in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table with intermittent standing, bending, crouching, or stooping.
The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a typical office setting; some work occurs in a morgue setting.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and biohazards.
Must be able to tolerate working with formalin fixative.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
