99 an hour This position is responsible for supervising Communications Officers on an assigned shift and for monitoring and dispatching calls.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Answers 911 calls; receives and screens incoming telephone calls from the public and other public safety agencies; categories and prioritizes calls.
Monitors weather conditions and makes the appropriate notifications.
Dispatches the appropriate emergency personnel to incident locations; provides emergency medical instructions to callers prior to the arrival of emergency personnel as appropriate.
Supervises, directs, schedules, and evaluates the work of Communications Officers; reviews and approves time cards.
Enters and retrieves data from the National Crime Information Center network; runs driver's license and license plate requests for officers in the field; verifies identity of wanted persons.
Reviews the work of assigned personnel for accuracy, thoroughness, and compliance with procedures; advises personnel on unusual or complex matters.
Provides on-the-job training to Communications Officers; makes arrangements for training classes; maintains certification records.
Receives, monitors, and dispatches radio communications traffic for EMS, Fire, and other law enforcement agencies, including all 911 calls.
Runs criminal background checks.
Verifies addresses.
Prepares tapes of phone conversations and radio traffic as directed.
Assists with developing and updating standard operating procedures.
Handles immediate questions and complaints from citizens and customers.
Monitors and routes incoming messages from national and state computer networks; enters and removes information as requested to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) network and the department computer system.
Dispatches the appropriate emergency personnel to incident locations; provides emergency medical instructions to callers prior to the arrival of emergency personnel as appropriate.
Reviews and validates paperwork Tests and monitors communications equipment; requests repairs as needed.
Counsels and disciplines personnel.
Relays information between all participating agencies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local statues and department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the regulations and procedures of state and national crime information centers.
Knowledge of the geography and road system of Jasper County.
Knowledge of the radio codes used in public safety work.
Knowledge of standard operating procedures of customer agencies.
Knowledge of dispatching procedures.
Knowledge of emergency medical procedures.
Skill in supervision.
Skill in operating radio and communications equipment.
Skill in operating a computer and standard office equipment.
Skill in dealing with the public.
Skill in maintain records and preparing reports.
Skill in making decisions accurately and rapidly.

MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division), NCIC certification, South Carolina Criminal Justice Basic E-911, CPR, and First Aid.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or console, standing, or walking.
The employee occasionally lifts light objects, uses equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is typically performed in a dispatch center that is often noisy and has dimly lit lighting.
